History:
Central Station is soaked in history dating back to its beginnings in the early 1800s when it began as a public house and hotel, being located close to the bustling trade of the Regents Canal branch of the Grand Union Canal, and later profiting from the trade of the busy railway termini of King's Cross and St Pancras. The next 200 years saw the building transformed inside and out, extensions built out and even another floor added above. Some of the biggest transformations however have happened since 1992 when the current owners, Martin and Duncan took over, installing a bar in the old coal holds, now known as The Underground, and adding a bar on the first floor, which at one time held a number of guest rooms.
In recent years, independently run Central Station has been home to the meeting place of several influential LGBT groups including the London Gay and Lesbian Switchboard, Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement, Countdown on Spanner, DELGA (Liberal Democrats for Lesbian and Gay Action) as well as groups that meet for fun such as the Gay Mini Owners and the North London Gay Bridge group. This has helped attract a wide spectrum of people from an international background and contributed to the many awards won by the gay owners.
Supporting LGBT charities and organisations has featured prominently throughout Central Station's history in addition to sporting organisations such as Gracie's Cricket Club and Stonewall FC.
Central Station also plays an important role in the local community and is currently working very closely with the LGBT History Museum, helping with the set-up and providing support along the way.
